National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery aims to increase the understanding of the Australian people – their identity, history, creativity and culture – through portraiture.

The new National Portrait Gallery building, situated on King Edward Terrace, Parkes, Canberra, bounded by the High Court of Australia and the National Gallery of Australia, displays some 400 portraits of people who have shaped Australia and who continue to shape our nation.

Whilst in Canberra this is a must see!

Australian War Memorial

The Australian War Memorial combines a shrine, a world-class museum, and an extensive archive. The Memorial's purpose is to commemorate the sacrifice of those Australians who have died in war. www.awm.gov.au

 

National Museum

The award-winning National Museum is full of fascinating stories, interesting objects, and things to do for all ages. Visit our permanent galleries, our unique rotating theatre Circa, the remarkable Garden of Australian Dreams, and Kspace – an interactive space where kids can design vehicles and buildings for the future.

Parliament House

Visitors are welcome when Parliament House is open (9.00am – 5.00pm on non-sitting days and 9.00am to House rise on sitting days). Question Time in both chambers is held at 2pm. There is a free guide service which assists visitors. Visitors may participate in guided tours of Parliament House. These free tours are conducted regularly. Please ring (02) 6277 5399 to confirm daily commencement times or enquire at the Information Desk in the marble foyer upon your arrival in the building.

Canberra Glassworks

Built and funded by the ACT Government and opened in 2007, the Canberra Glassworks is Australia’s only cultural centre that is wholly dedicated to contemporary glass art. At its core Canberra Glassworks is a working Glassworks that provides access to glassmaking facilities for glass artists
