Join us to explore the
possibilities in Aged Care
The ACSA twenty 10 National Conference will be the most
important aged and community care event this year. The
Conference will be held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor on
Hobart’s beautiful waterfront from Sunday 19 September
to Wednesday 22 September, 2010.
The theme is ‘Explore the Possibilities.’ In 2009 we stood
up for the future of aged and community are and made
our voices heard in Government and the community. This
year it is time for us to design a bright and sustainable
future for our industry. To make sure we explore all the
possibilities we will draw on sources far and wide – finding
lessons and innovation both outside our industry ‘square’
and from within our industry.
At the Conference you will be asked to:
Imagine a future where aged and community care draws on
innovation and ideas from leaders in other fields;
Explore how we might apply new ideas, technologies and practice
to our industry; and
Create a new and bright future for our clients, residents, families,
staff and organisations.
See you in Hobart in September.

Invitation from the
Conference Chair
On behalf of the Conference Committee, Tasmanian
members and our broader communities we invite you
to our island state and the ACSA Twenty 10 National
Conference – ‘Explore the Possibilities’. Our theme reflects
the experiences on offer to you whether you are absorbed
in the activities of the conference or immersed in the
unique and pure pleasures of Tasmania. We hope you
enjoy the program which endeavours to challenge current
thinking; stimulate creativity; create space for positive
interaction and examine the current issues of the day. In
addition we have an enthusiastic focus on the critical areas
of food, technology and marketing that we hope will
assist members in adding value to their services.
Beyond the conference we believe our state offers a
sensational mix of experiences from culinary delights,
coastal beauty, local markets, historic settings, forest walk,
endless beaches and ... more. We hope you have the time
to take in some of those things that we as Tasmanians
often take for granted. If you don’t have as much time
or have travelled from within Tasmania then enjoy the
picturesque surrounds of the Conference – the Derwent
River, Mount Wellington, Constitution Dock, Salamanca
Place and the Town Centre. We hope you take back to
your organisations and communities your own stories from
the Twenty 10 National Conference and Tasmania.

Conference Artwork
The poise of the tiger shows reflection and exploration in line with the main theme of the Conference, with the
wheelchair providing a link to Aged Care. The tiger conjures up a thoughtful image and suggests unless we explore
our possibilities we too may become extinct!
Tom Samek was born in Prague and lived there until he was seventeen. He describes himself as painter, sculptor,
printmaker, mural artist, theatre set designer and film animator. He is not afraid to touch the darker side of humanity,
yet the easy nativity of his style belies the intensity of his subject. Tom is a master of the ‘one liner’, but like all good
joke tellers the punch line is only part of the fun, the other part is the individuality of style and masterful touch.
Tom has exhibited extensively since 1971 including numerous solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Tasmania, Austria and
Darwin. His collections include The National Gallery of Australia, Auckland City Gallery, New Zealand, Artbank, South
Australian Art Gallery and The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. He is also widely known for his public artworks.
The original painting will be auctioned during the Conference Dinner. |
