About the Conference
The
inaugural Australasian Forest Genetics Conference
was held from April 11-14, 2007, in
Hobart, Tasmania, Australia in conjunction with the
meetings of the Australasian Forestry Research
Working Group 1 (Genetics) (RWG1 17th Meeting) and
the IUFRO Southern pine working group (2.02.20).
Australasian forest genetics research has made key
contributions in advancing fundamental forest
genetics, breeding strategy, germplasm development,
clonal forestry and propagation. To communicate our
achievements to the world and exchange new ideas the first Australasian Forest
Genetics Conference was hosted. The conference showcased
advances in genetics and breeding research for
plantation species within the Australasian context,
particularly for southern pine and eucalypt species,
and brought together molecular and quantitative
geneticists, breeders, propagation specialist,
managers and professional foresters to exchange the
latest information and technologies and strengthen
collaboration. The conference included invited
and contributed presentations and posters,
discussion sessions and a field trip.
