16th Engineering Heritage Australia Conference
Wrest Point Conference Centre
13-16 November 2011, Hobart, Tasmania

Invitation to Attend
On behalf of the Conference Organising Committee I invite you to take part in the next Engineering Heritage Australia Conference to be held in Hobart in November 2011. These conferences are held every two years, the last one being in Dunedin NZ in 2009.

The conference format includes a welcome reception, two and a half days of sessions with an afternoon break-out activity. His Excellency, The Honourable Peter Underwood, AC, Governor of Tasmania will officially open the Conference and has invited delegates to a Reception at Government House to mark the occasion of the conference.

Hobart is an attractive harbour city and the conference venue, the Wrest Point Conference Centre, is right on the shore of the River Derwent estuary. The Centre has excellent conference facilities.

The theme for the conference is Conserving our heritage – Make a difference! and we plan to attract interesting papers, some of which will present successful conservation achievements. The call for papers is scheduled for November 2010, so watch this space.

We are arranging a four day pre-conference tour to the north and west of the State, featuring convict-built bridges, a restored windmill, a historic mining museum, redeveloped railway workshops, operating steam engines, a rack railway and more.

Beyond the conference we believe our state offers a sensational mix of experiences from culinary delights, coastal beauty, local markets, historic settings, forest walk, endless beaches and ... more. We hope you have the time to take in some of those things that we as Tasmanians often take for granted. If you don’t have as much time or have travelled from within Tasmania then enjoy the picturesque surrounds of the Conference – the Derwent River, Mount Wellington, Constitution Dock, Salamanca Place and the City Centre.

We look forward to your attendance. You can be assured of a warm welcome and highly satisfactory arrangements for the event.
