Emeritus Prof. Geoffrey Blainey AC

Geoffery Blainey was Professor of Economic History at the University of Melbourne.  His 30 books include The Peaks of Lyell and The Tyranny of Distance.  In retirement he is a renowned public speaker.  His impeccably researched presentations, delivered with humour, reveal breathtaking insight. 

His topic for the conference is The role of engineers in Australian history.

ichael Chrimes

Formerly Librarian, now Director, Engineering Policy & Innovation, Institution of Civil Engineers, UK

For the last 15 years Michael has been acting as Secretary to the ICE’s Biographical Dictionary of Civil Engineers of Great Britain and Ireland Project.  The fruits of this have been two tomes covering 1500-1830 and 1830-1890.  They are now working on the period 1890-1920.

His topic for the conference is Lost in space? Biography across the hemispheres.
