Children the heart of the Dream

Australian Animals Tour

Gidday ! (Australian for hello)

The concept of the ‘Australian animals tour’ is that you include them in activities and experiences with children in your country. You would then send photos back to this web site anna@cdesign.com.au with a description of where they are and what they have been doing so that we here in Australia can all see what fun they are having. After a month or so, you would then move them on to another area and do more of the same. If there are particular landmarks in the photos, that might identify your country, that would be helpful.
The basic idea is to promote the International Family Day Care Conference in Brisbane in July 2012 and this is hopefully a way of keeping Australia at the forefront of people’s minds. We’d like the animals to be given as much exposure as possible to a variety of child focussed experiences that might be different to Australian settings. We would then expect the animals to be returned to us with someone who would be coming to the conference.

We look forward to seeing some photos up on the web site soon.

Have fun,and best wishes from,

Grace McDonald
President, IFDCO.

KELLY & KIRRA

My name is KELLY and my baby is KIRRA. We have big back legs with long feet. we move by hopping on our back legs and we eat grass. Some kinds of Kangaroos live in hot, dry places, others live in grasslands.

The word kangaroo is from the Aboriginal word (of the Guugu Yiidhirr language) “gungurru” for the grey kangaroo. However the English settlers soon used the word, which they pronounced kangaroo to refer to any of the kangaroo family.
The kangaroo is one of Australia’s most iconic animals and most species are endemic to Australia. There are over 60 different species of kangaroo and their close relatives, with all kangaroos belonging to the macropods, meaning great footed.
Kangaroos of different types live in all areas of Australia, from cold climate areas and desert plains to tropical rainforests and beaches.

The idea of sending Kelly and Kirra off on an adventure to your country, is for you to send back photos and stories of these adventures, in as many different Family Day Care settings as possible. This means that you will keep the kangaroos for a month and then send them on to another location for a month. The address to send the photos and stories is, anna@cdesign.com.au, to add to the FDCA/IFDCO Conference website.

We would then expect Kelly and Kirra to return to us with someone who will be coming to the conference. We know that they will be keen to get home after travelling for such a long time.

PIPPA & PIPPI / KADEE & ADONI

My name is Pippa and my baby is Pippi

All about the Koala
Koalas are furry, they are not bears, they only eat leaves of eucalyptus trees and they hardly ever drink water
A baby stays in it’s mothers pouch for a few months after it is born. The koala is possibly one of the best known Australian animals and is found in four states; Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.  The word koala comes from an Australian Aboriginal word meaning “no drink” It belongs to a special group of Australian animals called marsupials.  Female marsupials have a pouch where the baby animal lives after it is born. They are very tiny when they are born weighing just a few grams about the size of a jelly bean. They move into the pouch to complete their development.
They have soft thick grey or brown fur on their backs with white on their stomachs. The koala has a large hairless nose and round ears. They do not have tails. They have strong sharp claws and long toes to help them climb.

I’m sure that Pippa and Pippi will have some great adventures with you.
The idea for Pippa and Pippi ‘s adventures is that you send them on to another location  after a month with you, to spend time with more children and/or adults in other Family Day care settings.  Send the stories of their adventures accompanied by photos, back to our conference web site Anna@cdesign.com.au  so that everyone can see how much they are enjoying their twelve month tour to your country. Then hopefully they will come back with you or someone who will be coming to the Conference in July 2012.
