Tarraleah, TAS
11 - 15 October 2010
Tarraleah is a special place with stunning views of the Tasmanian Highlands and wilderness, and once the home of hundreds of Hydro pioneers. First scouted in the late 1800’s, the site was initially cleared as part of the Hydro development in the area during the 1920’s and 1930’s.
The Aboriginal meaning of ‘Tarraleah’ is “Forrester Kangaroo” and the site is host to an enormous range of Tasmanian flora and fauna. It is quite possible to see platypus and quolls, wallabies, wombats, devils and echidnas all on the site all on the same evening, whilst some say the Tasmanian tiger is also about.
Today it includes a spectacular look out point, a range of walks, exciting Tasmanian wildlife, a golf course and a range of holiday and luxury accommodation options.
Tarraleah is 20 kms from the physical centre of Tasmania, between Strahan and Hobart, right on the edge of World Heritage areas, two National Parks and the Tasmanian wilderness.
