Climate Change & People in Industry |
Theme Objectives:
1. To gain an understanding of what are the issues surrounding
climate change in the seafood industry.
2. To discuss what has occurred to date, what the implications
will be and what options industry has.
Theme
Objectives:
To develop a blueprint for co-management in Australian
fisheries, by
1. Hearing of examples of co-management from around the world,
any additional areas where co-management could be applied, and
how these could be refined to suit Australian fisheries.
2. Gaining a Government perspective on devolving day-to-day
responsibilities to stakeholders.
3. Hearing of methods used in other environments on how trust is
developed between stakeholders and how these could be applied in
fisheries.
4. Obtaining an understanding of research data to be collected
and provided by the industry to enable co-managers to set the
broad parameters for the fishery, within which the industry can
operate.
Theme Objectives:
1. To hear end-user experiences with accreditation (including
cost/benefit considerations), both within and outside the
fisheries sector. This will assist industry to make informed
decisions about future decisions on accreditation, within the
context of EPBC, MSC, Clean Green, EMS and other initiatives.
2. To consider current and predict likely future drivers of
accreditation and appropriate responses. These will include
marketing advantages and addressing increasing public
(government) scrutiny and security of access.
3. To clarify the relationships between EPBC and
state-government driven accreditation requirements and other
accreditation initiatives in order to reduce overlaps and
understand synergies and conflicts/duplication.

To answer and identify a series of issues related to today’s
changing markets including;
1. Where are the new emerging markets?
2. Where is Australian seafood going?
3. What do our overseas consumers want?
